A culmination of love, passion, hard work, and satisfaction are present in all of Catalan’s works. His innate desire to create permeates to the forefront, as his works express an insatiable esteem for life. His profound understanding of spatial relationships can be attributed to his architectural background. Catalan has had formal training of architecture in North America and informal training in Europe. He comes from a family of craftsman and architects, and intends on continuing the family tradition. Showing promise at a young age, Catalan’s work would sell out at local exhibits.
Born in the small town of Gioiosa Ionica, Italy, Catalan’s appreciation for the beauty of humble, rustic life was kindled. Memories of this distant land are still ever so present in his mind. The scent of jasmines and roses from the beautiful gardens that filled the morning air are vividly immanent. The visual rainbow of orchards baring figs, oranges, limes and pomegranates added to the already enticing palette of color arranged by the back-dropping mountains. Often recalling the warmth that emanated from both the dry but nurturing land and the fine sparkling sand of the beach of his home town, Catalan’s works depict this sense of comfort and reverently reference the tactility of the old painted stucco buildings and terra-cotta pots he grew up with. Catalan’s works can be found in several private and public collections.
