MaryAnn grew up in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, an area rich in art culture. Influenced by her surroundings, she studied watercolor technique and figure drawing under the supervision of two well-known artists, Ray di John and the late Rea Redifer.
MaryAnn’s extensive study of impressionism, post-impressionism, and the modern revolutionary movements of the late 19th and early 20th Century truly opened her eyes to art without boundaries. As a colorist, MaryAnn added the medium of oil for its rich subdued hues and depth. She also likes to work in acrylics for liveliness and spontaneity. MaryAnn places emphasis on strength in abstract design, linear movement, and saturation of color with interesting patterns and texture.
Ms. Weselyk feels that by removing one’s self from some literal details, one can express the character of objects and their interrelationships, show fresh detail, achieve greater beauty and grandeur. No matter how whimsical, or perhaps quizzical, MaryAnn wants her work to be perceived as believable with a delight to the senses so that a viewer may say with no uncertainty, “Yes, of course, pearls are blue!”
MaryAnn exhibits her work in galleries in Chester and Delaware counties in PA and Wilmington, DE. She has won awards in watercolor, oil, and sculpture. Her studio and residence are located in Unionville, PA.
Her career in art began with acceptance into the Chadds Ford School Annual Art Show in 1989. She has participated each year since. In 2001, MaryAnn was asked to be “Donating Artist” & Featured Artist, 2007.
