David Magnes was born in South Africa and educated at Eden College in Johannesburg. As a youth, he participated in numerous show jumping events and this love of horses quickly extended into a creative talent. He began his career painting portraits of racehorses, along with racing and polo scenes. In addition to his equine art, he also paints wildlife and landscapes.
David is listed in the Dictionary of South African Painters and Sculptors. His work is well known in South Africa and he has exhibited in galleries in South Africa and the United States. Selected exhibitions include: Bedford Gallery, South Africa; The Sporting Scene Gallery, New Jersey; Frame Concepts, Toronto; and the Celeste Suzany Gallery, Saratoga Springs, NY. His work has been commissioned by high-profile clients such as the Oppenheimers of DeBeers. His paintings hang in private collections in the United States and throughout the world.
David moved to the U.S. in 2000 and resides in Miami, Florida.
