Ann Guidera-Matey

Ann enjoys the immediacy, the vibrant colors and the versatility of the medium. However, it is the portability and convenience of pastels that has kept her working with this medium for the past fifteen years.

In the spring, summer and fall months you can find her and her box of pastels in the fields along the Brandywine River painting en plein air. “There is nothing like painting outside in the open! I know it sounds trite, but the feeling you get when the sun warms your face, a breeze rustles the grasses, and when you paint a landscape that you just hiked through is amazing. These feelings and the memories of each particular day become a part of the painting.” In the winter months, Ann paints from her own photographs at the Heron Crest Studios in Aston, PA.

Ann has been a docent at the Philadelphia Museum of Art for the past twelve years where she provides tours of the museum’s collections to the general public, school children and touch tours to people with visual disabilities.
